Inspired by industrial construction and design pioneers, Martin Solem is fascinated by plywood and its capabilities in furniture design. His designs challenge the strength and properties of wood to push beyond normal conventions while using minimal material. Solem’s passion for innovation and minimalism is exemplified in the Solem table for Bernhardt Design.
Featuring molded U-channel legs that taper in a sleek, visually light form, the Solem table is the result of an engineering exercise following extensive research on bending plywood. The legs are press formed to be hollow, allowing the user to conceal wires, creating a unique cable management system. The design, while being visually elegant and incredibly lightweight, provides solid structural support. The Solem table embodies modern Scandinavian design with its clean lines, allowing it to be used in a multitude of residential and commercial settings.
The Solem table is available in a range of sizes from smaller café tables to larger conference sizes. The tables are standard in natural oak. Special editions, featuring black or white surfaces accented with exposed plywood beveled edges, result in a unique composition of contrasting material. Enhancing the visual appeal on a personalized level, the base is specified separately from the top, enabling mix-and-match finish configurations.
